Who Am I?
I'm just your not quite average nerd, with an unusual fascination with all things automotive. I happen to moderate over at The Garage at LWS, and I post over at AutoModding from time to time. I also spend more than a little time in Something Awful's Automotive Insanity, among some of the other forums there.

Of course, seeing as she is my wonderful wife, I live with RedFeather and her amazing menagerie. I've also spent boatloads of time working on my truck, which is just a little beyond stock these days.

Hello Kirk,
Thanks again for the feedback; we got the motor and tranny in the truck this evening and ran into a problem with the transmission/mount/cross member.  It appears the top of the tranny is just shy of the bottom of the cab...not enough room to get the main mount bolt into the crossmember.  Did you use a differnt crossmember or mount to make yours work?

Also, I forgot to ask last time if you used the motor mounts where they originally sat or if you moved them back.  I moved mine back to the next predrilled hole on the top of the frame and drilled a second hole at the bottom since there wasn't a predrilled hole there.  I'm wondering if this is causing my problem with the tranny. I also noticed that passenger side exhaust manifold actually hits the frame and I'll have to bash it in some to be able to put it on. So I'm wondering if moving the engine back is causing this problem as well.  Can you please offer additional input on where the engine sits and the tranny mount?
Regards,
Luis

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my questions.  I do have a few more questions though, what tach did you use and how did you get it to work?  I had an Autometer tach that was hooked up to my distributor and well, as you know we have no distributor with the LS1. Have you made any other changes to your truck in the last two years since you posted about your project?  Have you liked your LS1 thus far?  I've put together an LS1 bottom half with custom Crane Cam, the LS6 or 243 heads and the 90mm LS2 intake and I hope to have the engine and tranny stabbed in my truck over the weekend and the wiring and reprogramming completed next week.

Regards,
Luis

You've got a very nice GMC!  I'm doing a similar setup in my 72 GMC and if you don't mind, I've got a few questions.

1) Do you have a part number for the Hooker headers that you used?
2) Do you have the typical problems with the headers bolts coming loose?
3) I've heard that headers are not a big improvment on the LS1, what's your opinion?
4) What route did yout take to get the battery cable to the alternator since it's on the driver's side.
5) Did you stay with the original style 28" radiator?
6) And did you use an electric fan?

If you can me help out, I would be grateful.

Regards,
Luis
